A few months ago, Black Stars Captain Asamoah Gyan, a world renowned football player, was accused of raping a 21 year old in Ghana. The story went as follows: Asamoah Gyan is a married man with four kids. Nevertheless, he engaged in sexual intercourse with this 21 year old woman. There is no dispute that sexual intercourse occurred. There is also an alleged sex tape to boot. However, at issue is whether Gyan exceeded the scope of consent.
The 21 year old says she only gave consent for a vaginal sexual intercourse. However, Gyan exceeded the scope of consent in that he had anal sex with her. Ghana’s police allegedly looked into the charges, the parties “settled” the issue outside of court. However, it is reported Gyan did not comply with the agreed terms leaving the 21year old to “lawyer up” and Gyan to do the same as well.
Through his lawyer, Gyan argued that sex was consensual. The 21 year old denies it.
In the meantime, the 21year old is now pregnant from that sexual encounter and further allegedly threatened to release a sex tape showing the nonconsensual anal sex/sodomy rape. Listen to the audio below published two weeks ago and alleging to be a discussion between the two, where they address the abortion Gyan wanted and also negotiate the release of the sex tape.
As it stands, the latest on this story is that a journalist has been arrested because the journalist was trying to extort money from Gyan.
I will address this rape story along with that of Timaya with an Atlanta woman next week in the AML podcast show.
For now, suffice it to say talents and entertainers, without addressing liability of whether rape occurred or not, when you engage in a sexual encounter with others, especially outside of your current committed relationships, at least have the decency to use a condom.
The alleged facts/legal case
The 21 Year Old & Asamoah Gyan
What a messy and totally avoidable situation he’s gotten himself into. At this point, the best thing he can do is to come out publicly and acknowledge the affair, the pregnancy, his inevitable divorce, and his intentions to financially support the involved parties. He should then go off and be on his own forever and ever. If this doesn’t teach a man that he doesn’t need to be married, I don’t know what will.
