I see Mr. Basketmouth is reading or inspired by our legal take on AML about his horrific rape joke. If you missed the analysis and review of rape laws in Nigeria, click here. Less than 24hours of publishing the AML legal take, he takes a line from Gospel hip-hop artist KJ 52’s classic ‘I’m Guilty’ sound track, with a ‘Guilty as Charged’ promo which shows a picture of him being booked, post “arrest” at the jail house; and a subsequent picture of him at the witness stand ready to give his testimony. Clever, although a bit weird because of his clear commercialization of the incident. Nevertheless, it is also a good way to take charge of his brand by admitting his guilt in such clear way and drawing on the sympathy of his fans, media and the public at large.
Now let’s hope moving forward, he takes an interest in also using his celebrity stardom to highlight the issues concerning the plight of rape and sexual assault against women in Nigeria/Africa.
Goodluck to him.
