Good look for America and Nigeria’s gospel hip-hop industry. I shared prior news of Bouqui collaborating with one of gospels top hip-hop artist Da Truth. Now, she is signed onto the label, a first for the label in terms of having an African artist.
There is a clear scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours unspoken deal terms going on here. Xist got Bouqui’s back here in the USA and Bouqui, on the flip side, got them covered in Nigeria/Africa’s front.
I feel confident that Xist will come through in pushing Bouqui to the USA core gospel hip-hop fans. I expect her to obviously step up and the label help her sharpen her skills as a lyricist and performer. The question I have is, as a pragmatic matter, how will Bouqui really be able to give it all she got on the U.S front: promotions, touring, breaking into a new market etc. (especially since Christian hip-hop here in the USA face parallel issues that Africa’s music industry as a whole faces), and still be able to be President of Xist in Nigeria i.e. set up and run Xist Nigeria/Africa.?
There better be great strategic planning and employment of the right people to help execute this vision, otherwise, even among brothers and sisters of the gospel, there could be a rift down the line.
I look forward to this great collaboration and I am excited!
