The 2018 Headies was held on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Convention Centre of the Eko Hotel & Suites, in Lagos, and as usual, it was not without controversy.   1. Yes, this list of Headies nominees and *winners* is a hot mess. If we’re talking about a list for the best of 2017, Banky W and 2Baba’s names should be nowhere near it. That glaring error alone makes the list lose all validity. Neither of them has ever produced a collection as timeless and near-perfect as Adekunle Gold’s ‘Gold’ album, which was actually released in summer of 2016.

    And I’m assuming that the only reason why Ajebutter22’s latest offering–the instantly-classic ‘What Happens In Lagos’–isn’t present is because it was released too late in the year? Otherwise this list is total boosit, mehn.

    And what is this “African Artiste” category about? If you’re talking about the best on the continent, and you don’t mention Cameroonian rapper Jovi’s ’16 Wives’ album, or Ghanaian rapper Medikal’s ‘Disturbation’ album, then you’re just talking more boosit.
