MUST LISTEN: ‘Hail My King’ by Obiora Obiwon ft. Frank Edwards, Eben, Kenny K’ore @ObioraObiwon

Oh my! This is so different from Obiora Obiwon. First, I LOVE the album art cover. It shows a very clean aesthetic yet conveys the powerful message it is supposed to. On the track he sent titled ‘Hail my King’ featuring Frank Edwards, Eben and Kenny K’ore, the introduction immediately captured my attention.

I feel like I am listening to some Panjabi (Indian) language off a Bollywood movie. What is that?! Is that Hausa or actual Panjabi language? Either way, I am not sure I have heard contemporary Hausa or Panjabi music voices/artists praising God in their languages, although I suppose I won’t know since I don’t speak the language.

Obiwon also keeps the track interesting by combining such diversity of sounds and cultures within Nigeria: Hausa, Yoruba, Ibo, Pidgin, and English, on the vocals. That’s pretty tricky because it could become chaotic but he manages to pull it off with a very simple beat, a great and memorable hook and lyrics which remain totally on point. Shout out to whomever the music producer is.

I also like the  raspy voice where the vocals go an octave lower and on one of the verses you hear, “here I am singing aloud, giving you the joyful song . . .” It sounded simply delicious to my ears. If that is Obiwon with that part, it continues to show his vocal range and why he was so successful singing circular music and now gospel.

The underlying harmonization from all of the artists and the way they take some of those notes to higher octaves is on point.

I also like Obiora’s attempt to appeal to hip-hop heads with an equally interesting quick and easy Yoruba rap addition to the track. He is thinking from scratch to finish about his target audience and you can tell he wants everyone included.

I’m really enjoying the production on this one. Really smooth. The only thing I don’t care for is the shout out saying “The God boys are in the building.” A bit off and didn’t quite fit with the overall feel and presentation of the song.

Folks, it’s a wrap for me. Loads of music this week. Industry, you all are celebrating, not fighting. Lol! Great! So that allows me to take my foot off the gas pedal on the legal drama, music law and music business, and celebrate too. 🙂 Okay, do come back to the legal drama soon otherwise you will have a Nigerican sista completely anxious. We can’t have that. Lol!

Have a healthy and productive day ahead and stay blessed folks. Me “I’m hailing my King hey,” which already indicates my day is going to be fantastic.

Now singing Obiora Obiwon’s, “I go hail my king hey x2/ Make I hail my king hey, and I know to shout hey x2/ I go hail my king hey, I go hail my king o/ I know to shout hey/ Many things wey you dey do for me!/ I dey shout Jesus! I dey scream Jesus x2/ Hail my king hey, EDUMARE, OKAKA, EBUBEDIKE . . . My life I give to you, everything I am is by your grace. . .”

Cheers,
Uduak

Obiora Obiwon Gold Water Album

Lagos, Nigeria- After a successful outing at the “Gold Water Concert”, music minister Obiora Obiwon has released a brand new single entitled Hail My King. The single which is the second track off the Gold Water album features the brightest elite of Nigerian Urban Gospel Frank Edwards, Eben, and Kenny K’ore, all together on one song with Obiora Obiwon himself.

Musically the record is a HipHop song interlaced with Nigerian dialects. The lyrics are a call to action inspired by strong conviction and are delivered through eccentric performances from the four ministers. The song is produced by Phat E who previous repertoire with Obiwon include ‘Testify’, the ‘F.a.t.h.e.r 2.0’ versions and Obi Mu O. Their undeniable synergy is once more felt here and as well as the entire length of the album.
